Opera Gallery Singapore is proud to present its 30th anniversary exhibition, ‘The Collector 1994’. This exhibition showcases a unique selection of masterworks from renowned Impressionist, Modern, and Contemporary artists, including Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Pierre Soulages, Zao Wou-Ki, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Fernando Botero, and Manolo Valdés, to name a few.
To commemorate this milestone, the gallery space has been redesigned to recreate the apartment of an art collector in 1994, the year Opera Gallery established its first location in Singapore. ‘The Collector 1994’ transports viewers to the heart of the 1990s by recreating five living spaces of a collector’s home from thirty years ago: an entrance hall, a living room, a dining room, a bedroom, and a library.
This exhibition examines the singular and personal relationship between an art collector and the artworks in their collection. Their works remain as influential today as they were 30 years ago, reflecting Opera Gallery’s journey over the past three decades—a journey marked by continuous growth and inspiration.
The exhibition’s special scenography allows the artworks to be experienced in a more personal and intimate manner. It's a unique opportunity to travel back to 1994 and visit the intimate interior of a collector's home.
“Singapore is significant in Opera’s history as our first location, a risk that has been most rewarding.”
“With 16 locations today, the gallery’s artist roster and collector base have grown exponentially to reflect our international footprint. This has allowed us to push boundaries, staging museum-scale modern and contemporary art exhibitions.”
“As we enter our fourth decade, set to be the most exciting yet, I look forward to sharing Opera Gallery and our artists with new audiences, building an authentic connection with each and every one.”
